Dancing Skeletons

So far my favorite drawing from the work I’m doing with Lynda Barry’s book is one I did with my eyes closed.

The prompt was to draw 3 skeletons with eyes closed in blue, yellow, and red. I used colored pencils.

Davy was immediately drawn in by this, but insisted I draw them again “happy.”

The big smiles and heads threw off the proportions, but there’s no doubt these drawings have more “life” than any I’ve done eyes open.

I’m also loving rediscovering composition notebooks. I used to love writing and drawing in these as a kid.

DUPLO Dragon

My kid was playing with DUPLO while I was making notes from Lynda Barry’s Making Comics.

I turned from rereading this page to meet his DUPLO Dragon with a long green head and white window wing.

Kids Speak Image

I’m reading Lynda Barry’s Making Comics. I have no real interest in making comics or even illustration, but I am loving the lessons in storytelling and curiosity.

I think it’s especially powerful making art that is for process and not product alongside my kid. Something I haven’t done in a VERY long time.

Perhaps since I was a kid myself.
